The rose hip, a berry like no other

The rosehip appears after flowering when it has been pollinated. So it tends to be said to be the “fruit” of the shrub, but botanically the fruits are found inside the rosehip berry. Indeed, inside the berry are “seeds” or rather achenes. These achenes each carry a seed. Rose hips are orange-red in color and rather elongated in shape. The fleshy exterior therefore contains achenes, but also small fine and slightly stinging hairs. Moreover, the rosehip is nicknamed “ass scratcher” because of these hairs. It would have a vermifuge effect, but would also be irritating to the digestive tract.

The benefits

Thanks to its vitamin C content, the berry strengthens the immune system. The rose hip is therefore a perfect ally in the fight against winter diseases. The pectins and mucilages present in the fruit regulate transit and thus help relieve diarrhea and constipation. Rosehip would also be anti-inflammatory. After a good cure, it would reduce pain related to osteoarthritis, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also a good diuretic.

How to consume rosehip?

Rosehip is mainly found in the form of jam. However, it is possible to consume it in infusion or puree. To make an infusion, hollow out the rose hips and cut them into small pieces. Add them to boiling water and boil for 10 minutes. Filter, let cool and consume!
